School Meals

We are part of the Nottinghamshire County Council school meals scheme, all meals are cooked on site by our dedicated school meals staff.

School meals currently cost £2.30 per day (£11.50 per week). Meals should be paid for in advance on a Monday morning for that week.

Paying for school meals

By Cash or Cheque - Please send money/cheque (cheques are made payable to Brookhill Leys Primary School) into school in a sealed envelope clearly stating your child's name and class and if they are not staying school meals all week, which days of the week your child will be staying for school meals.

or alternatively

Online - We have teamed together with Tucasi and Worldpay to offer all parents/carers an online payment facility.  All children have been issued with a unique online payment access login where you can pay for school meals, trips, etc online using a Debit or Credit card.  If you do not have an online payment access login and would like to start using this method of payment or for more information please contact the school office on 01773 713452 or office@brookhill.notts.sch.uk.

Universal Free School Meals

Universal Free School Meals (UIFSM) came into effect on 1st  September 2014.  UIFSM are available to all children in the Foundation Stage 2 and Key Stage 1.  This means that all children up to the end of Year 2 receive a school meal free of charge.  A UIFSM is the same as other meals cooked in the school and follows the Nottinghamshire County Council school meals scheme, all meals are cooked on site by our dedicated school meals staff.  All children eligible for a UIFSM are encouraged to have one.

Free School Meals Benefit

Nottinghamshire County Council also runs the Free School Meals benefit.  Any child from Foundation to Year 6 can apply for the Free School Meal benefit if you meet the criteria.  Even if your child is in the Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1 and already receive a Universal Free School Meal (UIFSM) parents are encouraged still to apply for the free school meal benefit if they qualify.  To qualify you must receive one of the following benefits:

  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,190
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income-based and Contributions-based JSA and ESA on an equal basis
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for four weeks after the person stops qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit - during the initial roll-out of the benefit

In addition, if you are receiving one of the above payments and are accepted for the Free School Meal benefit your children will be entitled to free milk in school if they are aged seven and under (there is no age limit for children attending special schools).  The school will also supply each Free School Meal benefit child with a free school jumper and tie when your application has been accepted by Nottinghamshire Council Council.  Nottinghamshire County Council and the Government also run other initiatives in schools aimed at Free School Meal benefit children.  The school also receives funding (known as Pupil Premium) from the Government for any child that qualifies for the Free School Meal benefit.  Pupil Premium funding is vital and helps the school access the wider curriculum enabling opportunities for all pupils.

So if you qualify for the Free School Meal Benefit then please apply - if you have any questions, need help to complete the form or you are unsure if you qualify then please speak to a member of the office team who will be happy to assist you.

Nottinghamshire County Council has teamed up with Cool Milk to administer milk in school.  All children who want milk in school whether this is paid for or free (under the free school meals entitlement) must register with Cool Milk at www.coolmilk.com, or alternatively, you can pick up a leaflet from the school office.  Children on free school meals and under the age of 5 are entitled to free milk in school, but still need to register with cool Milk before they receive milk in school.  Children NOT registered with Cool Milk will NOT receive milk in school.
